the owlish sweater

hey peeps. sorry for the radio silence. it's been a rough couple of months, shall we say? moving on.

i've started knitting again. i had some purple 2-ply handspun waiting to be a sweater for some time, so i got started on a little something inspired by the lovely owls pullover. my yarn was of a thinner gauge, so much math has been going on (ugh).

the body went as planned, but after finishing the first sleeve discovered that the fit was just.. off. slightly too-fitted cuff, slightly too-loose upper arm. frogging and math (more math!) are not amongst my favorite parts of knitting, but here we are. it'll be a while yet before this thing is done. it's okay, seems like it's going to be winter forever in new england.

you know how i've been mentioning a pullip hat pattern forever? yeah. well, since having my wisdom teeth taken out i've had a little more computer time. hi! i now present to you... arietta: basic pullip beanie the knitting pattern! size: pullip finished measurement: 8.5 in (21 cm), stretches to 10.25 in (27 cm) yarn: any worsted weight. shown here in red heart super saver, in monet needles: size us 5 dpns gauge: 4.5 sts/in in stockinette. cast on 48 stitches, join and begin working in the round. knit 1, purl 1 for 5 rows. k until hat measures 2 in (5 cm), or 2.5 in (6.5 cm) if you want it a little longer. decrease rounds: 1. k6, k2tog across 2. today i thought i'd post about some of the blogs i read regularly, especially those about crafting, etsying, and dolls. (i'm partial to google reader..) first is the storque , of course. here you get updates on everything going on at etsy, and you can subscribe to certain sections alone if you want.. etsy news, reviews, how-tos, etc. there is also unofficial etsy news , which is an unaffiliated source for news only. this is great for when etsy is down, and, well.. times when they aren't keeping us abreast of everything. new stuffs.

i finished a new stocking cap-style dolly hat a few days ago. i was thinking halloween when i was working on it, and had intended intended to sew on some purple buttons. the thing is, i couldn't find enough among my stash in the right color... so, i went without. what do you think? (and you know, the boyfriend is always saying, "why do you need to buy buttons? don't you have enough?" ha!) i have a pink and black one that needs some finishing, so that will be up soon. can't wait for halloween...
